John Collyer CB
John Collyer CB CEng MA BEng(Hons) FBCS
During his 30-year military service, John commanded at Squadron, Regiment, Group and Brigade levels following commissioning in to the Royal Corps of Signals. He held staff appointments in the MOD Operations Directorate, Defence Intelligence, Army Headquarters, Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps and the United States Security Coordinator HQ. In the deployed arena, he trained and operated in Africa, the Balkans, Iraq, Germany, the US, Afghanistan and the wider Middle East.
A Chartered Engineer, he holds a 1st Class Information Systems Engineering degree, a Masters degree in Defence Studies from King’s College London, is a Fellow of the British Computer Society and completed the Oxford University Said Business School Major Programme Leadership Academy pathway in 2022. He was appointed as a Companion of the Order of the Bath in the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours List.
John retired from the Army in June 2024 in the rank of Major General on completion of his tour as the Army’s Chief Information Officer and Information Director. He is now a Non-Executive Director and also a Strategic Advisor with a number of technical pace-setters. Separately, he runs a small international mountaineering expedition organisation and supports a number of charities and professional bodies.
